During the Chhat puja people come to different ghat and while coming so they perform the act called Dondi. During this act the new born babies are kept on the way of the crawling womens so that they may get their blessings too. The four-day Chhath festival began today, with the ghats in Kolkata being decked up for devotees. Celebrated from the sixth day (hence called ‘Chhath') after Diwali, it is celebrated to pay obeisance to the Sun as cosmic energy. The puja is observed mainly by the people from Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh or Poorvanchalis. (Photo by Shibasish Saha/Pacific Press)
