On May 21, 1884, there died in thecity of Heading, Pa., ihe son of thispatriotic and upright citizen, of whomthe Times, of Reading, Pa., gives thefollowing well merited biographicalsketch: Joseph Lybrand Stichter, son of PeterStichter and his wife, Elizabeth Lybrand,was born in Reading, October 30, grandfather, Conrad Stichter, emi- THE KEIM AND ALLIED FAMILIES. 425. Col. Joseph I,ybrand Reading, Pa. 1884. grated to America from Lubeck, Ger-many, in the year 1750, and settled inHeading, where Peter Stichter was bornin 1761. At the age of 16, he enlistedin the army of the Revolution, and waswith the fragment of the Continentaltroops under the command of Washing-ton during the dreary winter of 1777 atValley Forge. Joseph L. received his education in theGerman and English schools of Reading-,and when 15 years of age became an ap-prentice to the iron and hardware tradein the store of Keim & Drenkle, a well-known business firm of that day. He subsequently formed an engage-ment with the house of Daniel M. Keim& Co. in the same line of business, whichwas continued up to the year 1837, whenhe entered into co-partnership with thelate John M. Keim, under the firm ofKeim & Stichter. In 1S41, by the transfer of Mr. Keimsinterest to James McKnight, the title ofthe firm was changed to Stichter
