Tower at The Bayon. Angkor Thom. Siem Reap. Cambodia
A Gopuram or Gopura, is a monumental tower, usually ornate, at the entrance of any temple. They function as gateways through the walls that surround the temple also appear in architecture outside India, especially Khmer architecture, as at Angkor Wat. Many of the gopuras constructed under Jayavarman VII toward the end of the 12th century, such as this one at Angkor Thom, are adorned with gigantic stone faces of Avalokiteshvara.
