James Hyslop (1854-1920), US researcher of psychic phenomena. Hyslop was professor of Logic and Ethics from 1889-1902, at Columbia University, New York, USA. He first encountered the supernatural in 1888, when he met the medium Mrs Piper, and received messages from his father and relatives. In 1905, Hyslop took over the role of chief investigator of Mrs Piper. In 1906, he re-founded the American Society for Psychical Research. Hyslop's books on psychical research include: Science and a Future Life (1906); Borderland of Psychical Research (1906); Life After Death (1918); and Contact with the Other World (1919).
