A lion appearing to be plucked from a haircare advert. BLACKPOOL ZOO, UK. These British animals show just how striking our native population of captive critters can be. In one dramatic image taken at Blackpool Zoo, we see an elegant lion, his mane as though he has been cast for a haircare advert. Another image shows a sea lion gracefully leaping out of the water at Flamingo Land. And despite the striking poses of these magnificent animals, these impressive photographs were not taken in a studio, they were shot at a variety of Zoos across the UK. Gary Cox from Bury, Greater Manchester is the photographer who transformed these portraits into extraordinary pieces of art through his meticulous process. Shooting in this environment comes with a unique set of challenges. From unpredictability to low-light, Gary has to contend with a variety of obstacles when in a zoo to get his stunning portraits.
