The Cistercian abbey of Notre-Dame-de-Re, also known as Les Chateliers, situated on the Ile de Re off the west coast of France

The abbey of Notre-Dame-de-Re, otherwise known as Les Chateliers, was founded in the 1150s by monks of the Cisterian order. It was destroyed several times, first in 1294 by the English and then during the Hundred Years War and again by the Huguenots during the Wars of Religion in 1574. Most of the existing ruins date from the 14th century onwards, with various rebuilding over the centuries.
