THE POLISH AIR FORCE IN BRITAIN, 1940-1947 - F/Lt Klisz, a pre-war pilot of Polish Air Lines, aged 52 at the time the photograph was taken, joined the RAF Transport Command on 1 October 1941. He had 13000 flying hours to his credit and piloted about 150 different types of aircraft with only one mishap, when an engine caught fire on take-off. He was known as an exceptional pilot in the RAF and was popularly called "Papa" by his fellow officers. After the war he was employed by the Air France airlines as a Budget Controller in London.
