Stronghold of the Iron Age Brigantes, it may be 'Rigodunum' one of the last places to fall to the Romans. Its distinctive limestone bulk with a cap of millstone grit rises above a glacial valley carved out 2 million years ago. Drystone field walls, water-eroded limestone terraces (scars) with fins & spines, and the remains of mines & quarries fill the scene. Raking, saturated lighting from a November sunset.
