Looking ESE across the Doe valley to Ingleborough Hill, North Yorkshire, England's highest hillfort, stronghold of the Iron Age Brigantes tribes.

Looking E from Twisleton Scar End across the Doe valley to Ingleborough Hill, England's highest hillfort. Stronghold of the Iron Age Brigantes, it may be 'Rigodunum' one of the last places to fall to the Romans. Its distinctive limestone bulk with a cap of millstone grit rises above a glacial valley carved out 2 million years ago. Drystone field walls, water-eroded limestone terraces (scars) with fins & spines, and the remains of mines & quarries fill the scene. Raking, saturated lighting from a November sunset.
