The purpose of the competition is to improve beef club member skills in judging and showing 4-H beef. The 40th annual provincial 4-H Dairy Show and team judging, contest was held July 16 at the Westerner Exposition grounds in Red Deer. This event is sponsored by the Westerner (Red Deer), Alberta Dairymen's Association, Beef Associations, Agriculture Canada and Alberta The top ten competitors from each event will be invited to attend further training and competition at Edmonton Northlands in November. Winners will compete at the International 4-H Team Judging Competition at Agribition, in Regina, soon after. WESTERN CANADA LOTTERY UPDATE The second payment of the 3-year lottery funding program was mailed to eligible agricultural societies in the first week of August. 5 Class "B", 39 Class "C" and 173 Class "D" agricultural societies received fundi ng. 20 agricultural societies did not receive funding at this time because they had not met the reporting requirements under the interprovincial lottery license. Agricultural and Community Services staff are contacting and assisting these agricultural societies to meet the reporting requirements.
