Hoverflies are often wasp or bee-like but are harmless and don’t sting! They get their name from their ability to hover in all directions and are important pollinators and pest controllers. Syrphus ribesii is a black and yellow striped hoverfly with a yellow face and bronze thorax. Females are identifiable by the yellow femora in their back legs.
