He waseducated at Kings College School, and at the LondonUniversity. He is a Director of the London Joint Cityand Midland Bank, and a Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey,and was High SherifT, 1004-5. At the outbreak of the latewar he raised, commanded and trained the 3rd BattalionSurrey Volunteers, his rank being Hisprevious military experience with the Royal Berks\eomanry, of which he is Major, extended over twentyvears. Sir Edward is well known for his great contributed /,25,ooo for restoring the Nurses quarters ofSt. Bartholomews Hospital. He is a Fellow of variouslearned and other societies.
