Donating blood. Man squeezing a rubber ball to encourage good circulation while donating blood in an apheresis clinic. Apheresis is the process by which blood from the donor is separated into its components by an apheresis machine (not seen). Platelets (blood clotting components) and plasma are retained while the rest of the blood is returned to the donor. Photographed at the Crozatier Center in Saint-Antoine Hospital, Paris.
