MSG weather satellite construction. Here, the antennas' protective covers are being removed. This is a Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) satellite under construction at the EADS (European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company) Astrium site in Toulouse, France. The Meteosat satellites are operated by EUMETSAT under the Meteosat Transition Programme (MTP). The first MSG satellite (MSG-1) launched in 2002 and began operating in 2004, with a second (MSG-2) launched in 2005. Following these, the launches of MSG-3 and MSG-4 took place in 2012 and 2015. The four MSG satellites are also known as Meteosat-8, Meteosat-9, Meteosat-10 and Meteosat-11.
