Home-Made Jig for Boring Brasses BY L. J. GOUTHRO Foreman of Machine Shop Boston & Worcester Street Railway At the Framingham (Mass.) shops of the Boston &Worcester Street Railway the jig shown in the ac-companying illustrations is used to expedite the boringof brasses. Fig. 1 shows the jig open, ready to receivethe brasses, these being bored in pairs when set upas shown in Fig. 2. The jig consists essentially of apair of clamps mounted on an adjustable base which is. Theseclamps are brought up against the work by two %, and the brasses are centered by two }4-in. x % rods, which, when turned, give an adjustmentof 1/16 in. in diameter at the brass. About 3 in. ofhorizontal adjustment can be had at the clamps. Twobrasses of any size that the road uses can be boredout in ten minutes, whereas such an operation on asingle brass would easily take twice as long on a latheor milling machine.
