As the crop is sometimes variable, dried apricots command fancy prices from year to year and growers this season are receiving from 17c to 20c per pound for the dried product in the sweat box. Practically all the varieties ripen their fruits in May and June and the orchardist can harvest and dry his crop before other fruits are ready for the market. In some localities the entire crop is used for canning purposes. This is par- ticularly so, in the Santa Clara valley. The Libby, McNeil & Libby Co., can- ning corporation located at Selma in the San Joaquin Valley, canned this sea- son over 800 tons, this being their first run on apricots. We have every reason to believe that the canning of apricots will be a great industry in the San Joaquin Valley. One orchard in particular, located near Lemoore, in Kings County, of eleven acres brought the owner the neat sum of $6, net. Packing houses are installing heavy machinery for the cracking and shelling of the pits, which are shipped to the Eastern and foreign manufacturers for producing prussic acid, and these pits find a ready market. We offer only the best varieties that bring sure returns to the grower.
