The ceremony of the « apple Tree » This is the oldest tradition of Plougastel, the only one in Brittany, and from Celtic origins. It takes place every afternoon on november 1st, in order to celebrate the dead people of the community around the tree. The “apple tree” is sold and the last family to give money keeps it for a year at home. This still occurs today. The Breuriez (groups of people having the same affinities, brotherhoods or fraternities) used to gather together on All Saints Day to celebrate "the ceremony of the apple stick" in memory of the dead. This tree, sold by auction within the Breuriez, became the property of a family for a whole year.
