Thomas the Tank engine in his native land
The Revd Awdry based the Island of Sodor on the Isle of Man, which had a network using tank engines. The Manx Bishop is Bishop of Sodor and Mann, so the Revd Awdry was giving him back Sodor in an ecclesiastic joke. Today only 1 line of the network remains active.
