One of them, of strong bibulous propensities, actingas his private secretary, brought about an altercation between Nelson aud awagoner nearly as large, which narrowly missed fatal results. He wasanxious to get the driver away from his wagon in which there was a jug ofwhisky, and directed him to Nelsons tent to find a big fellow who wasemployed to imhitch teams for tired drivers.
