Geiger counter. Geiger counter used to measure the radioactivity levels of an area of countryside. Part of the Geiger counter is a tube filled with low pressure gas. As radiation passes through the tube it ionises (charges) the gas particles. The number of charged particles and hence the radiation level is recorded on a dial (upper left).
