Historic Log Chute on Kennisis River Haliburton Ontario Canada - vertical


This is the only remaining intact log chute in Ontario, located below the Big Hawk Lake dam. The original dates back to the nineteenth century when white pine was logged heavily for ship building. The logs were moved from the Kennisis River in Haliburton through the Trent River system, then to market. The current chute was restored in the late 1940s and discontinued as a log chute in the early 1950s.
