Skull during forensic research. The skull can be used as a base for facial reconstruction, in which anatomical knowledge is used to overlay the skull with muscles, fat and skin to provide a reasonable likeness of the person. This can be useful in identifying people from remains. Teeth can also provide an important and accurate way of identifying a person. By comparing the teeth to dental records, the identity of the person can often be ascertained.
