A twisted piece of metal on the Leslie spit a land reclamation project using contruction debris on the shore of Lake Ontario near Toronto

The Leslie street spit is one of the largest land reclamation projects in North America, extending 5 kilometres out into Lake Ontario. It was begun in the 1950's, originally intended as a small breakwater for the Toronto harbour but continued to grow in size as a result of clean fill from city many development projects. Today material is regularly deposited in select zones and the original section is now heavily forested and has become an important bird sanctuary.
