A Portrait of Fanny Cerito with some of her awards and presentations. Francesca "Fanny" Cerrito (1817 – 1909) was an Italian ballet dancer & (unusually for her time) a noted female choreographer. She trained in ballet at San Carlo Opera House & became internationally known, having appeared at La Scala , Milan ; Her Majesty's Theatre, London and elsewhere. Notably, celebrity chef Alexis Soyer once created a moulded dessert in her honour, topped with a miniature figure of herself which spun around on a sugar spiral. Her trainers included Carlo Blasis, Jules Perrot, & Arthur Saint-Léon
