Members and friends of the Chabad of Harlem celebrate the completion of their Sefer Torah
Members and friends of the Chabad of Harlem celebrate the completion of their Sefer Torah with a Torah parade (Hachnasat Sefer Torah) through the streets of Harlem in New York on Sunday, October 27, 2013. The ten year old synagogue commissioned the hand-written parchment scroll (which contains 304,805 Hebrew letters) two years ago. Harlem was once home to over 200 synagogues before the Great Depression and current census records have shown that the caucasian population now outnumbers african-americans. (© Richard B. Levine)
