DENVER-- Sgt. Dane R. Maes, a combat engineer for the 118th Sapper company, uses an acetylene torch to cut through rebar during a search and rescue exercise during Vigilant Guard July 23. Maes is a team member in the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Emergency Response Force Platform (CERFP). The 97th troop commands HRF along with multiple CERFPs and state first-responders work as contingent partners during the annual Vigilant Guard exercise held throughout Colorado.
