The impeachment of Andrew Johnson, 5 March 1868, (1872). Johnson (1808-1875), seventeenth President of the United States, succeeded to the presidency upon the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. His term lasted from 1865 to 1869. He was impeached in 1868 but was acquitted.
