Srinagar, Kashmir. 21 March 2021. People of different ages, including children, receive leech treatment in Srinagar, in Indian administered Kashmir, on the eve of Nowruz or Persian New Year. Hirudotheraphy or leech therapy is one of the oldest complementary therapies in Kashmir, where it is used to treat a number of ailments including sinusitis, skin conditions, arthritis, frostbite, and headaches. The medical use of leeches dates back to ancient Egypt where bloodletting was a common practice to prevent and cure illnesses
