Flour mill, 16th century artwork. Men milling flour in a mill driven by human power, rather than wind or water. The mill operators are turning wheels on the central level to power the mill on the upper level. Other workers are carrying bags of grain and flour. This is an engraving from a book by the French inventor and mathematician Jacques Besson (circa 1540-1573). The book was titled Theatre des instrumens mathematiques et mechaniques (Theatre of mathematical and mechanical instruments). This artwork is from an edition published in Lyon in 1596.
