Monumental tomb of Arcangela Paladini (1596-1622), painter, singer and poet, in the porch of the church of Santa Felicita, Florence, Tuscany, Italy
Arcangela Paladini (or Arcangiola Palladini) (Pistoia 1596 - Florence 1622) was an Italian painter, singer and poet. Her early talent not only for painting, but also for embroidery and music soon earned her the protection of the grand dukes of Tuscany who brought her to Florence. Arcangela Paladini died in Florence in 1622, at the age of 26, and was buried in the church of Santa Felicita, the second oldest parish of Florence, where the grand duchess had a monumental tomb built under the entrance porch, Executed by the sculptors Agostino Bugiardini and Antonio Novelli. Above the sarcophagus is placed the bust of the artist, while on the sides there are two bas-reliefs depicting allegories of Painting with palette and brushes and Music playing the harp, both with expression saddened by the premature death of the artist.
