George Russell Agassiz (1862-1951), US zoologist. Agassiz was professor of zoology at Harvard University. He was the son of US zoologist Alexander Agassiz and grandson of Swiss-born US naturalist Louis Agassiz. George Russell Agassiz was one of the chief advisors and benefactors of Harvard's Museum of Comparative Zoology. He was elected to Harvard's Board of Overseers in 1924 and served as the Board's president from 1931 to 1934. He also published on the subject of astronomy. This artwork is by US artist Frank Weston Benson (1862-1951), and dates from 1915.
