In 1852 he suc-ceeded Eider Griffith as president ofthe Deptford branch, which position heoccupied until he emigrated to Ameri-ca with his wife and three children in1854. They crossed the Atlantic in theship •Clara AVheeler, which sailedfrom Liverpool, England, Nov. 27, the voyage considerable sicknessprevailed among the emigrants and anumber of them died. Having arrivedat St. Louis, Mo., in January, 1855, hefound employment as a ship carpenter,. working on steamboats and other ves-sels, in the employ of the famous Cap-tain James Eades. While thus employ-ed he was ordained to the office of aHigh Priest by Apostle Erastus Snow,ond set apart to act as a member ofthe High Council in the St. Louis Stakeof Zion. His house was always opento the missionaries, and among thentany Valley Elders who shared inhis hospitality Avas Apostle Parley , who stayed at his home abouta month immediately before going toArkansas, where he was murdered. InJune, Elder Pollard continued hisjourney Zion-ward, joined the emigra-tion at Florence, Nebraska, and cross-ed the plains in Capt. Jacob Hoffinescompany.
