The Port of Rotterdam is the largest seaport in Europe, and the world's largest outside Asia Its scale is simply mind boggling, covering 105 square kilometres in area and stretching over a distance of 40 kilometres from the North Sea to the International Cruise Terminal and City Centre; if you arrive by sea, as we did, it takes well over 3 hours to do this. Along the way, you will cruise past many refineries, power plants, container ports, industrial complexes, fuel storage tanks and myriads of wind turbines: these are often all mixed up, like here, in a a kind of highly organised chaos. This is why the rest of the Netherlands seems relatively industry free - all of it seems to be concentrated in and around Rotterdam!
