Rubella virus particles. Negatively-stained transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of Rubella virus particles (virions, small, round) budding from their host cell surface. Enveloped in the host cell's membrane, they are able to move through the host, infecting more cells. Rubella, or German measles, is a respiratory viral infection characterised by mild respiratory symptoms and low-grade fever, followed by a maculopapular rash lasting about three days.
