However, that of whichwe are most proud, the place of learningwhere all are equal, regardless of color,wealth, or social degree, are our publicschools. The stormy days of the rebellion wit-nessed the construction of our first schoolbuilding, the old stone; then camethe Union street brick, in 1S69; next theold frame one-story building then locatedupon the present site of the Frances Jackson presided over thisschool for many years.
