Glacier. Front of a glacier on Alexander Island flowing into Marguerite Bay (lower right). Glaciers are huge masses of ice that form when snow fallen on high ground compacts. The glacier moves downhill under its own weight, until it reaches the coast, where chunks break off to form icebergs. Photographed in Antarctica.
