Slug trail on roof of barn cloche. The cloche has been fully closed so the atmosphere inside is very moist, which will encourage mildew, and pests.

Vintage, low barn cloche used to protect overwintering parsley from winter frost, as well as rain and wind. Slug trail on roof panes. The cloche has been fully closed allowing the atmosphere inside to become very moist, which will encourage mildew, rot, pests and slugs/snails, and the parsley to suffer. The top vent is closed and the ends sealed with panes of glass held in place by sticks tied to metal frame with recycled strips from clothes. This has caused heavy condensation to form, encouraging rot and mildew. The weight of the glass and securely fastened ends makes these cloches very stable in strong winds. The wire frames have been handed down through three generations of one family so should date from circa 1940.
