This painting by Jan Asselijn (1610-1652) shows Gustav Adolf, King of Sweden, in a battle near Lutzen. It is in the Royal Painting Collection in Braunschweig. Gustavus Adolphus, also known as Gustav II Adolf or Gustav II Adolph, was King of Sweden from 1611 to 1632, and is credited with the rise of Sweden as a great European power. Jan Asselijn was a Dutch Golden Age painter.
