Old and new St Pancras Station, London. On left is William Barlow's Victorian trainshed; on right is Norman Foster's new International station

The old meets the new at the east entrance to St Pancras International station. On the left is the northernmost point of Barlow’s original train shed: the exterior wall is of red brick with stone dressings, in a neo-Gothic style of pointed arches over the windows and doorway. In the centre is the new entrance, of glass and steel with a flat roof, designed by Norman Foster. The illuminated sign uses lettering in Barlow, a font specially designed for the new station. To the right is the new trainshed, with a slightly higher roof; this extends Barlow’s original by some 600 feet (180 meters) to allow for the length of Eurostar trains.
