Cardiac muscle fibres, fluorescence deconvolution micrograph. Fluorescent dyes have been used to highlight cellular structures and proteins: cardiac actin (green), cell nuclei (blue), adrenoreceptors (red). Actin is a contractile muscle protein. Adrenoreceptors are structures on the surface of a cell triggered by adrenaline and noradrenaline, in this case to increase the heart rate when needed. They are also known as beta receptors.
