An inert Guided Bomb Unit 12 delivered from an F-35B Lightning II aircraft assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 242 hits its designated target at Combined Arms Training Center, Camp Fuji, Japan, June 28, 2022. This training marked the first-ever live close air support missions in Japan with an F-35B. Marine Corps Joint Terminal Attack Controllers with 3d Battalion, 2d Marines coordinated the close air support with VMFA-242. 3/2 is forward deployed in the Indo-Pacific under 4th Marines, 3d Marine Division as part of the Unit Deployment Program.
