Red and White Lighthouse against Summer Clear Blue Sky

Nestled on the shore of historic Esquimalt Harbour, overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Fisgard lighthouse was the first permanent light on Canada's west coast, built in 1860 and is still a working navigation aid today. The 56 foot high tower has a projecting lantern platform with brick corbelling below. The round and smoothly tapered brick tower has an elegant profile. Gothic Revival influences are seen in the pointed-arch windows and brick corbelling below the lantern platform. The integrated Keeper’s Dwelling complements the tower and creates a well-scaled design of simply detailed brick construction.
