Mr. Suttons ability and faithfulness in the taskwhich he had gratuitously assumed was in due time appropriatelyrewarded. In June, 1871, he was appointed warrant clerk, and hasvery satisfactorily filled that situation to the present time (1876).He wields a ready pen, writes a bold, legible hand, and is an accu-rate and rapid accountant. In auditing the accounts renderedagainst, the Department by the several institutions, amounting annu-ally to a little less than a half million of dollars, his services aredeemed as almost
