One or more additional loops of wire can pass over the grindingsurface at the junction of two teeth and be united to those on eitherside, if the appliance is not well retained. This method of attaching apparatus to the teeth I term a „Crib,a more minute description of which will be given as we proceed. Fig. 3. An effectual method of drawing too prominent or over-crowded lower teeth into proper line (as well as those of the upperarch), where a bicuspid has been removed on either side leaving aspace, is to arrange a spring wire on the lingual side of the teeth inthe line they should assume when regulated, extending backward,. Fig. 3. following the line of the gum, and again forward, on the labial sideforming a crib as described, except that the ends should be left freeto form springs, which extend forward on the labial side of the teeth, passing the medium line, and thus one lapping the other. By the pressure of the springs the teeth are forced against themain wire and are thus drawn into proper line. If the front teeth are not prominent enough, as seen in Fig. 4,the appliance should be made the same as the one last described, except that the main wire should be arranged on the labial side ofthe teeth, and the springs on the lingual side, which will press theteeth out into the circle made by the main wire in front of them.
