Dinslaken, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - New Emschermouth into the Rhine. Excavator in the construction area of the New Emschermouth in front of the decommissioned STEAG coal-fired power plant Voerde. The Emscher river's outlet into the Rhine will be relocated from Dinslaken to Voerde, about 500 metres to the north. Fish will then be able to swim barrier-free up the new Emscher from the Rhine through a newly created floodplain. Following the construction of a parallel sewer, the Emscher will be completely free of sewage from January 2022. The river was previously an open, above-ground combined sewer with rainwater and wastewater.
