A Wardian case in the Himalayan Valley Tea Plantation at Tregothnan Estate, Cornwall

The world’s first example of flat pack. The first British design outsourced to manufacture in China. The revolution in transporting plants around the World. Thought to be ‘extinct’- discovered in a shed at Tregothnan in 2000. The Wardian Case was invented in 1834 by Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward. Replicas now being made in China again to officially celebrate the centenary of the Chelsea Flower show in May 2013.
