MRI surgery. Surgeons carrying out surgery in the vicinity of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner (not seen, scans on wall lightboxes). The MRI scanner being used is the Airis II from Hitachi, an open MRI scanner that enables surgeons to carry out scans on a patient during an operation. The MRI scanner's strong magnets require metallic surgical instruments to be kept outside the range of the magnetic field. The overhead lights are Skylux MRI lights, specially designed with non-metallic components to allow them to be used in the vicinity of MRI scanners. Photographed in Tokyo, Japan.
