Length of cheek greater than snout plus eye, the eye contained just over twice in cheek in larger specimens but only about 1-5 times in the smallest fish (ii6-o mm ). Dorsal surface of head with a median ridge separating the supra-orbital canals, the latter covered by thick adipose tissue but beneath this bridged by two bony struts, the posterior oblique and above vertical from posterior eye border. Frontals tips separated in the midline posteriorly, exposing a pair of triangular posterior frontal fontanelles separated by a slender anterior projection of the supra-occipital, the fontanelles quarter eye diameter.
