Many Thai farmers keep some cattle for producing milk and meat for the local market, this is a Brahman cow.

The Isan (or Isaan) area is mainly an agricultural area. Beside growing 1 crop of rice per year many farmers keep some cattle for producing milk and meat for the local market. Agriculture is the main economic activity, but due to the socio-economic conditions and hot, dry climate, output lags behind that of other parts of the country. Isan is Thailand's poorest region. The Brahman or Brahma is a breed of Zebu cattle (Bos primigenius indicus), later exported from India to the rest of the world.
