Lewis aged 8 and the Robin Hood statue which resides just outside Nottingham Castle in what was once the moat. It was given to Nottingham by EF Clay Esquire on 28th June 1949. The artist was James Woodford (1893 – 1976) a native of Nottingham. He started studying at the Nottingham School of Art, part way through his course he enlisted during the Great War. After miltary service, he continued his training at the Royal College of Art in London. He cast the Robin Hood statue in 1951 and it was unveiled in 1952.
