The bride and bridegroom sit together,while turmeric water is poured on theirheads. Presents of cloth, beads, rings, etc.,are exchanged, fowls, and if possible sheep,are sacrificed to propitiate the demons, andthe flesh is then cooked, made up into ballswith some sort of grain, and distributedamong the party. On these occasions theyall join in a dance, which seems to consistprincipally in hopping from one leg to theother, at each movement snapping theirfingers and uttering an ejaculation, while atintervals the whole of the dancers comebumping together, and then separate. If the parents of the bride refuse to con-sent to the marriage, it frequently happensthat the friends of the bridegroom watchtheir opportunity, and if the girl is foundalone, they seize and carry her off.
